Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:AMRS), an industrial bioscience company, has reported the first-quarter product sales for the Biossance brand. The product has shown impressive sales growth rates and is expected to maintain the trend in 2017.

In yet another segment, Amyris recently announced the unveiling of the new tackifying resins produced by Cray Valley using Amyris’ biologically derived farnesene selling under the brand name Biofene®. Amyris’s farnesene has a disruptive nature which allowed Cray Valley to develop new tackifying resins basing on monomers derived from sustainable biomaterials. Consequently, the farnesene-based resins are not affected by supply instabilities and costs of monomers which are based on petroleum. They are also not subject to natural variabilities which greatly impair the quality of limonene and pinene monomers
The Wingtack group of tackifying resins from Cray Valley are made using piperylene. Cray Valley has been leveraging new technology to utilize farnesene and replace 30% of piperylene as well as incorporating Wingtack® EXTRA F30 into its tackifiers product line without compromising on performance – especially in hot melt usage.
According to data from research company MarketsandMarkets.com, the global market for tackifier is expected to hit $3.56 billion by 2020. This is a big opportunity for renewable farnesene-based tackifiers and Amyris hopes to exploit this market as its products achieve market scale.
Amyris is an integrated company engaged in the production of renewable products to achieve sustainable growth. The company uses innovative solutions to transform plant sugars into molecules of hydrocarbon in addition to producing consumer products and specialty ingredients. Amyris is working to unveil its No Compromise® products in several markets including performance and specialty chemicals, fragrances, flavors, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics ingredients and nutraceuticals. Total Cray Valley, based in Paris, is a subsidiary of Total’s Polymers division and part of the Refining & Chemicals branch.
